Book passage

from "Illinois," in Alice Munro, The View from Castle RockAnd yet. And yet--there was something about all this rushing away, loosing oneself entirely from family and past, there was something rash and self-trusting about it that might not help a man, that might put him more in the way of such an accident, such a fate.
Context: One brother thinks of another who decided not to follow the rest of his family and ends up dying prematurely. The brother acknowledges that given the circumstances, the death was more to do with bad luck than a bad choice. And yet.
